Rita Karen Bates Viel, 61, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 12th with her family at her side. Born in Akron, Ohio Rita lived most of her life in the Syracuse area.
She is survived by her companion of 15 years, Thomas Garcia, her children, Mena Viel and William Viel, grandchildren Isabella, Dominick and Luca. She is also survived by her sister Marian Hoige of Syracuse, niece Kristin Addley, nephew Frederick (Nikki) Hoige and her brother Joseph Cannito of South Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Wednesday December 18th at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be private.
