Obituary of David Daniel Didio

David Daniel Didio was the first born son of Mary (Metrick) and Vito Didio in Auburn, NY on July 6, 1932.He passed away from a brief illness on September 4, 2014. He graduated from Holy Family High School, where he excelled as an outstanding athlete. He then served his country for three years with the US Coastguard.
David married Phyllis Ann Nolan in 1954. After his honorable discharge, he attended SUNY Cortland where he received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education. David began teaching and coaching at Mount Carmel in Auburn, NY.
David was a member of the Auburn Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree member of Assembly Number 1575 in Westvale.
In 1966, he joined the faculty at Bishop Ludden High School, and remained there for twenty-two years. He taught social studies and coached football, basketball and track. In 1974 David was named Athletic Director of the school. During his time as the Athletic Director, he was instrumental in passing Title IX. David was also one of the originators of WTVH-5 Athlete of the Week, which honors high school athletes. David was an original committee member of "Super 16," which evolved into the state tournament for basketball. He was a member of the CNY Athletic Directors Association. He initiated the Bishop Ludden Christmas Basketball tournament with the support of the K of C Council 4114. This tournament still continues today. He also helped to create the Sports Booster club that helped build the athletic program at Ludden. In 1987, David joined the staff of Oneida-Madison BOCES as director of adult education.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Frank Didio. David's greatest treasure was his family. David is survived by his wife of sixty years, Phyllis and seven children, Greg (Maisie), Suzanne (Jim) Kramer, Karen (Michael) Moran, Kevin (Mimi), Christopher (Rosanne), Rob, and Mark (Melisa) Didio, grandchildren, James (Sara), Katie (Joseph) Nestler, Robert (Erin), Matthew, and Ryan Kramer, Sean and Patrick Moran, Ashley, Kevin Michael, Brittany, Annemarie, Mollie Didio, Mercedes (Gregory) Lamb, Deanna, David, Isabella, Mark, McKenzie, and Mia Didio, and great grandchildren, Nolan and Maryn Kramer, and Anna Nestler. David is also survived by his three siblings; Michael (Marie), Thomas (Debbie), Pat (Roger) Hutchings, sister-in-law, Jess Didio and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 10am at Holy Family Church, Fairmount. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 5pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Skaneateles.
