Obituary of Mary Alice (Barrett) Salanger

Mary Alice (Barrett) Salanger, 86, of Camillus, died Monday at St. Joseph's Hospital Unit 1-8 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Syracuse to Veronica and Martin Barrett, she lived here all her life. Her full-time job was being a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed golf and spending many winters in Stuart, FL with her husband, John, and sister, Jane, and brother-in-law Dick. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church, Fairmount, where she was a member of the funeral luncheon committee, and was a former parishioner of St. Ann's Church. She was pre-deceased by her husband, John in 2009, her infant son, John Michael, and brothers, Robert and James. She is survived by her five loving children, Marty (Nancy) Salanger, Patty (Jim) Costello, David (Karen) Salanger, Colleen (Mark) Scherer, and Carol (Scott) Harris; her sixteen grandchildren, Kiersten, John, and Mark Salanger, Katelyn, Lauren, and Kevin Costello, Brian, Sarah (Steve Streiff), Connor, and Emily Salanger, Patrick, Eric, and Michael Scherer, and Greg, Allison, and Matthew Harris; sister, Jane Roehm; sister-in-law's, Virginia Barrett, Helen Salanger, & Joan (Chuck) Beeler; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Camillus Ridge who became her second family. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 27, 2016 at 12:30pm at Holy Family Church. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 7p.m. Thursday at Edward J.
