Obituary of Mary Joan Costello

Mary Joanne "Joan" Costello died peacefully at Francis House on Saturday, September 17th, her 82nd birthday. Joan was the oldest of five children born to Henry and Anne Sansone. She was a lifelong resident of Syracuse and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Joan will be remembered for her love and devotion to her six children, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Joan was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John in 2003, her brothers Sam and Henry Sansone, and her sister Peggy Corning. Surviving are her sons; John (Lillian), James (Patricia), Jeffery (Colleen), Jay (Ida), daughters Marilyn (Don) McNamara and Maureen (George) Ackerman, her grandchildren: Lee, Kelly, Jenny, Daniel, Justin, Katelyn, Lauren, Kristen, Maria, Karen, Kevin, Christopher and Brian, Great Grandchildren Camryn, Leigh, Timothy, Max, and Finnegan, her sister Marcia (Fran) Lowther, brothers-in-law Michael Corning and Albert Sahm, several nieces, nephews, cousins and of course her beloved dog Lilly. Our family would like to thank the entire staff at Francis House for the loving and compassionate care during mom's final weeks. Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21st at 10:00 am in St. Patrick's Church, Syracuse. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum Dewitt. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Sept 20th from 4 to 7 pm at St. Patrick's Church .
