Obituary of Brother John L. Loehr

John L. Loehr, 89, passed away peacefully in Lincroft, NJ on October 30th. He was born in Syracuse on January 9, 1927. He was a graduate of Onondaga Valley High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Maritime Service during WWII. He returned back to Syracuse where he joined the police department, before moving to Washington D. C. where he continued as a police officer. After his time in Washington he returned home to Syracuse where he became a master plumber and spent time working for the city. On April 5, 1968 he entered the Novitiate. He received his religious habit on June 29, 1968, and pronounced perpetual vows in Lincroft, NJ in 1974. Over his career as a Brother he spent time in numerous places throughout NY and NJ. He also spent time in Bethlehem and Jamaica as part of his duties to the Christian Brothers. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Elizabeth Loehr, a sister-in-law, Lucille Loehr, a brother-in-law, Paul Coon, a niece, Linda Loehr, and a great nephew, Nathan Karazuba. John is survived by sisters; Mary Coon, Patricia (James) Giangobbe, Judith (John) Piedmonte, a brother, William "Bing" Loehr, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 5th at 11am at St. Patrick's Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave. The family will receive friends and relatives from 10am-11am at church prior to the mass. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
