Obituary of Francis C. Corbett

Francis C. Corbett, 100 years young, passed away Tuesday at St. Camillus RHCF, surrounded by his children. Frank was a Native Son of Tipperary Hill and a Stonethrower in his early years. A US Army Veteran, he served 3 ½ years in the European Theatre during WWII fighting and surviving in the Battle of the Bulge as a member of the 309th Signal Corps. He worked as a funeral director under Mike Callahan on Tompkins St.; co-owned Corbett Hardware on Tipp Hill with his brothers, Jack and Ed; and labored 34 years at General Electric, retiring in 1981.
Frank was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. He had a passion for golf, earning the nickname "Nice Shot Frank" and was an avid bowler, doing both well into his 94th year of life. Above all, he was a dedicated family man to his wife, children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews.
Frank was predeceased by his wife, Winifred (Tynan) in 1971; his daughter, Mary Lou (Dennis) Haney, in 2015, his parents, and 5 siblings. He is survived by his children; John (Shari), Michael (Mary Haynes), Thomas (Sarah) and Ann (Tom Hodgens); a son-in-law, Dennis J. Haney; 4 grandchildren; Maryl (Haney) Frenzel, Daniel Corbett, Dennis T. Haney, and Sean F. Corbett; and a great grandchild, Nicholas Corbett, as well as numerous nieces and nephews of the Corbett and Tynan families.
Calling hours are Sunday (Today), November 20, 2016 from 1 to 4pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Funeral Mass is Monday, November 21, 2016 at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick's Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave., Syracuse. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
