John was a good friend. I will miss not seeing him again when I return to central NY. and not talking to him on New Year's Eve.
We enjoyed ski trips with Pol and John and had a great time.
Pol, I hope you are able to allow some time to grieve, but I also hope you look back on all the good times you and John shared. Does heating salami on the wood stove at the camp ring a bell?
I will remember John fondly and all the laughs we had.

Polly, Sharron and I are very saddened by John's passing. I can't believe we won't hear his chuckle anymore. We had many a good time enjoying great food and Manhattans, skiing and just hanging out. What more can I say.

We never knew John by the name of Byron. We first met John and Polly when they moved next door to us in Marcellus many years ago. Within hours (it seems) we soon became close friends. We convinced them to join our gourmet dining club, Society Des Gastronomes, where our goal was to try out mystery dinning locations in Central NY, NY City, Toronto, Montreal, and Bermuda. They joined over 28 years ago.
We have enjoyed John and Polly's company on many occasions including impromptu road trips and vacations - including Europe.
John followed my interest in the Matthew 25 Farm about 10 years ago. We both started out as volunteers planting, raising, and harvesting vegetables to be given away as free to food pantries and anyone who was hungry and could not afford it. John eventually served on the Board of Directors for about one year.
John is remembered as always willing to share tales of his boyhood in Syracuse and Solvay plus many close calls while serving in Vietnam. He always had a story to tell about the deer that got away and a couple of big bucks that did not. He learned the love of reading books from a fellow soldier in Vietnam and reading became a strong passion for him from then on. One of his favorite things to do would be to go alone to Heid's for a hot dog and sit and read a book.
John loved movies on VHS tapes plus CD's. He built a very large collection to the point when he bought a new movie he forgot he already had one. That was a source of a few chuckles.
John shared our love of a good Manhattan, on the rocks, with two cherries while watching a movie plus popcorn.
John, we love you, miss you very much, and hope they have Manhattans in heaven.

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I worked with him at Countryway Insurance Co.when he and Tom O'Connor came from Travelers. They were such a hoot together. I really enjoyed John's fishing stories too. He loved the Alaskan trip. I see his name on some of the files and think of him often.
God bless you all.

Dear Polly and Family,
I'm so, so, sorry. I admired John's love for his wife, his family and his pet's. John was a gentleman, a kind and decent man, and a true and faithful friend. We shared more than a few "adventures" together and I will cherish the memories of all of them - especially his magnificent stories of the missed shots, and the big ones that got away. When John started with, "There I was..." you knew a treat was coming! I'll miss him too.
