Obituary of Belle Roulton
Belle E. (Dowdell) Roulton, 105, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 16th. “Mema Belle”, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was born on July 16, 1914 in Sodus, NY and was a true inspiration to all who knew her not only in how long she lived, but also in how she lived her life. Belle moved to Syracuse to raise her family and begin her working career. She spent many years working at W.T. Grants and Dey Brothers and during WW2 she worked at Carrier Corp. manning a press to stamp tank fenders. After retirement she moved to New Mexico and then returned to Syracuse after her husband’s passing in 1991 where she remained, living on her own, until her passing. At family gatherings Belle loved to tell stories about her adventures, how the world had changed in the last 100 years and her unique views on life, love and family.
Belle is predeceased by her husband, Robert Roulon; her daughter, Barbara Parrow; her parents, Arthur and Edythe Whitney; her brother, Floyd Whitney; and her son-in-law, William Sakran.
Belle is survived by her daughter, Edythe Sakran; her grandchildren, Lisa (John) Merriman; Kevin (Amy) Parrow; Mary (Jay) Marnell; David (Colleen) Sakran; and William (Christina) Sakran; 16 great-grandchildren plus a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sean Murphy and all of Belle’s caregivers from Kindred Care and a big thank you to Marlene McCracken for her help and friendship throughout the years.
Burial at the Veteran’s Cemetery and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Condolences can be shared at edwardjryanandson.com.
