Joe and his gang were among the first of Mary Ann Thompson's relatives we visited after our marriage. He not only welcomed us to his home but treated us like family. That meant a lot to me since I am an only child and had never experienced this level of hospitality. At that time Joe and I were both public school teachers so we were able to compare notes on our profession. Through the years Mary Ann and I were invited to the McMullen weddings which was always a treat for us. Joe also prepped me for the time when my daughter Erin would get married so I would understand the emotional balance that comes with losing a daughter and gaining a son. And he was also a role model for how to raise sons and keep them on the right path. We prayer that he will rest in peace with the perpetual light of God always over him.

To Mrs. McMullen and the entire McMullen family:
Please accept my deepest sympathy upon the passing of your husband and father. I was quite surprised to read this. I always remember him as a kind and gentle soul. The memories that we all have of growing up in the Rosary parish will always contain images of Mr. McMullen as one of the mainstays.
I will pass this news along to my father (who will be 87 this month) and mother. They both continue to read the newspaper and may see it anyway, but neither is proficient enough online to learn of this before then. I'll notify Pete as well.
Know that your husband and father is in heaven with the Blessed Mother and her Son. My prayers go out to all of you.

Dear Ellen and the entire family,
I want to extend my deepest sympathy to all of you for Joe’s passing. We were friends and neighbors for a long time and Joe will be missed. I can fully appreciate the pain you’re coping with today.
But thank goodness we have our faith to sustain us. We know what life is about and the promises our Lord and Savior has made to us. Having lived his life accordingly, Joe has now attained that goal. He is now your personal Saint in heaven.
And remember, he is not “gone away” but is and always will be close by you. You can and should talk to him and keep him in your hearts. Explain and ask him, then wait and listen and somehow you will get a reply - not by a direct voice - but rather a clear thought that you will understand and appreciate.
