Obituary of Michael D. Shields

Michael D. Shields, 71 of Syracuse passed away peacefully with his wife and best friend by his side on Thursday, January 21, 2021.  Mike was a graduate of St. James Elementary, Corcoran High School and Tampa Technical Institute.  He was retired after over 25 years with Niagra Mohawk and National Grid, where he enjoyed long lasting friendships.  Mike loved fishing, riding his motorcycle, and “gardening.” Mike enjoyed country rides, nature and chauffering his sisters-in-law on wine tours, and being with family and friends, especially his saintly wife.

Mike is predeceased by his parents, John T. and Helen E. Shields, and sister, Maureen Walker.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marie, his sister, Kate (Andrew) Connery, mother-in-law, Arlene Hyland, in-laws; Paul (Linda) Hyland, Bobbi (David) Milazzo, Punkie (Dick) Lighton, and Rich (Dorothy) Hyland, and many nieces and nephews all whom he loved with all his heart.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 10am at St. James/Our Lady of  Hope; 4845 S Salina St., Syracuse, NY.  Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 4 to 7pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Syracuse, NY.  Burial will be in Valley Cemetery.
