Comment from Susan Cain Goode. To Peggy’s family, my deepest condolences to all of you. Peggy dearly loved all of her nieces and nephews. She talked about you so much that I felt like I knew you all. Peggy and I were friends for 75 years. We both had Polio in the 1940’s and spent time at the Ithaca Reconstruction Home for post polio treatment. We were 12 years old when we went to Percy Hughes school. Peggy made many new friends there including, Violet, Barbara, Joanne, Pinky and me. Peggy, in her grownup years would do things that people thought were impossible for her. She flew to Ireland, went to Florida and Washington DC,and drove her car everywhere. She is Godmother to my daughter Jeni and was present at all weddings, showers etc. the years have flown by and she is gone. God bless until we meet again, Susan

Peggy and I began our friendship at the Syracuse Urban Renewal Agency ( a/k/a City of Syracuse ) over 50 years ago. She was the Secretary in the Relocation Office, who knew everything there was to know. She was witty, honest, smart, funny and caring. She took care of her parents until they passed away and became quite well versed in ailments and a variety of health conditions. Despite the polio - she traveled and was the best dressed / fashionable person ever. She loved pizza and all food Italian, as well as paska/bobka and could eat junk food like a teen-ager - and don't forget her standing order of Christmas cookies! Although the last 5 years were not what Peggy wanted for herself, I believe she's upstairs now with her sisters, running and jumping and catching up on the latest - and free at last.

Peggy was my Godmother. She was generous, funny, spoke her mind, and was loved by me and my family. When I was just a little kid Peggy remembered me on my birthday and holidays. She was special and was one of my mom’s best friends. She overcame the disability of having polio and drive a car using hand brakes & hand gas pedals. She and my mom cared for each other very much, both sharing the difficulty of segregation when young polio kids. Peggy did and went places before there was handicap assessable laws. A truly amazing woman. May she Rest In Peace and know that she made a difference! Respect, admiration, and love to my Godmother, Peggy “DingDing”

Dear Family of Peggy Digney,
May you take comfort in your loving memories of Peggy. The sadness is real, yet compared to the joy found within the good memories of Peggy, you will keep her love alive.
My mom met Peggy when they attended Percy Hughes School for children being treated for polio. Mom and Peggy remained close (along with their friend Susan) through much of their adult lives. So much so, that Peggy was chosen, by my Mom and Dad, to be Godmother to one of my brothers. Peggy was often present at family gatherings and many holidays as we six “Costello kids” were growing up…all our sacraments and birthdays. We Costello(s) loved and cherished Peggy.
When I was executive director at the CNY Ronald McDonald House for over 10 years (1989-1999) Peggy was a tremendously valued volunteer typist, helping acknowledge contributions. Peggy was also a dedicated volunteer ombudsman for local nursing homes. She always advocated for the ‘underdog’.
As the years passed and my parents aged, lives were busy with work and grandkids, etc. and one of my profound regrets is that we didn’t get Mom and Peggy together just for fun and reminiscing.
But, Peggy did make the tremendous effort and Peggy visited my Mom when Mom was at the end stage of her life at Francis House. It was a loving gesture for Peggy to see her life long friend, and sincerely appreciated.
Our deepest condolences for your loss of Peggy.
Love and sympathy,
Marilyn (Tickner) McNamara
