Obituary of Eve F. Pappalau
Eve Elizabeth Fazzio Pappalau, of Syracuse, N.Y., died Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side.
She was born January 23, 1938, in Albany, N.Y., to John and Beatrice (Tompkins) Fazzio. She graduated from Cathedral Academy in 1956, worked for the local phone company in its accounting department and was selected to Albany’s 1959 Tulip Festival Queen’s Court. She then met John, her husband of 61 years. The couple married in 1960, at the Church of the Holy Cross in Albany, N.Y. Eve was an avid gardener, conversationalist, downhill skier and senior Olympic medalist in swimming. She was always ready for the next great adventure or pool party in her and John’s backyard oasis.
She is survived by daughter Jane (Steve) Anderson; son Andrew (Deborah) Pappalau; grandchildren Devin (Ivana) Pappalau, Audrey Pappalau, Sophie Pappalau and great-granddaughter Milena Pappalau, her sisters Beatrice R. Buckley and Marianne P. Donovan; sister-in-law Kathleen Fazzio, brother John Fazzio, nieces, nephews and many cherished friends. She is also survived by step-grandchildren Jess (Jennifer) Anderson, Kent (Cassandra) Anderson and David (Stephanie) Anderson; and six step-great grandchildren.
She is pre-deceased by her husband John, son Michael and parents.
Arrangements are being handled by Edward J. Ryan Funeral Home (3180 Bellevue Ave., Syracuse), where visitation will be Thursday, December 16, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Charles-St. Ann’s Church (417 S. Orchard Road, Syracuse) Friday, December 17, at 10 a.m.. A private burial will be held in Albany, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Eve's name to the Syracuse, N.Y., chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (shpnysyr.org) or the American Red Cross.
