Obituary of Jane Ann Maxwell
Jane A. Maxwell, devoted and beloved wife and mother, passed away on Jan. 26, 2022. Jane was born on June 21, 1921 in Syracuse, graduated from North High School, and spent most of her life there. She also resided in Lexington, Kentucky and Kettering, Ohio, prior to returning to Jamesville and The Nottingham community. She met her husband, Herbert F. Maxwell, Jr., while working at the USO near the end of WWII, married him in 1949, and they spent the next 72 years dedicated to each other, during which time they raised two children.
In addition to being a homemaker, Jane’s other passion was being a hospital volunteer. She began her decades of service in 1964 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Syracuse. Jane subsequently volunteered at hospitals in Lexington and Dayton, Ohio until the age of 90. In Dayton, she was recognized on the Miami Valley Hospital Wall of Honor three times, was honored for her tens of thousands of volunteer service hours, and she also served as Chairman of Volunteer Organization and sat on the Board of Directors for two years. Jane’s other interests included involvement in parent-teacher organizations, reading, travel, sports, and dogs - her own, her children’s, and her grandchild’s.
Jane is survived by her husband, Herb; her children, Herbert F. (Skip) Maxwell, 3rd (Natalie) and Jacqueline A. Musto (Terry); grandchildren Jessica R. Maxwell (Timothy Flemig) and Bridget E. Musto; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jane was predeceased by her parents, Leon and Elizabeth Butler, and her sister, Leona Proietti. In view of Jane’s decision to make an anatomical gift to Upstate Medical University and COVID precautions, a memorial service will be held in the spring on June 4, 2022 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of choice.
