Obituary of Kay L. Edgecombe
Kay Edgecombe departed this life March 23rd after a courageous 18 year struggle with breast cancer
Kay was the fourth of nine siblings. She graduated from Olean High School in 1944, then worked several jobs helping siblings through college. She graduated from nursing school at Brooklyn Jewish Medical Center in 1961 with honors then worked at Brooklyn Jewish Medical center, Mount Sinai, NY. After receiving a scholarship to attend medical school specializing in cardiology, she put her education plans on hold to care for her ailing mother. She later worked as a nurse at Montefiore, Sloan Kettering and Rosewell Park cancer center in Buffalo NY before retiring from Emory hospital in Atlanta Georgia in 1996.
Kay lost her husband, Reuben Edgecombe, in an auto accident in1953, nine months after their wedding, while he was serving in the Marine Corps.
Kay was an intercessory prayer warrior. She loved caring for the sick and leading many to the Lord. She leaves behind a brother Lee Strickland and his wife Judy along with nieces, nephews and grandnieces.
