At the ripe age of 19, I lived in Astoria the summer of 2007 pursuing my music dreams.
Living with my sister Lindsay, Becky quickly became a friend to us both. We bonded over coming from families of all girls, how we all played basketball in high school, and we enjoyed some epic karaoke nights together.
She would come to every music gig that I played that summer and was always so damn funny. I’ll miss her quick wit and her laugh. May she rest in peace.

Q: What will you miss most about Becky?
A: The thing I will miss most about Becky is her goofy sense of humor and her ability to mimic voices and make people laugh. I unfortunately didn’t get to talk to her much after her recovery, but would always tell my sister (Lindsay) how proud I was of Becky and happy to hear that life was looking brighter for her.
Becky was a beacon of light, and even if she was feeling her worst, she would never let you know it. She persevered through all the things she dealt with in life. And I’m grateful to say I knew her for as long as I did and made many memorable moments together.
May she be laughing often, telling all the jokes and making all the voices, and smiling down on us with no pain, but with pure joy.
Sending the Maloney family all the love and hugs. xox

It’s hard to recall exactly when Becky and I met because we were so close for the majority of my “adult” life. I think it was the summer of 2007. Earlier that year, I recruited her good friend, Katie, on Craigs List (!) to fill an empty room in my apartment in Astoria, Queens. Katie and I became fast friends and about 6 months later, her best friend Becky relocated to Astoria. We were inseparable. At that time, I never had a close friend that also came from a huge family of all girls (I was 1 of 4!). We connected immediately. We did everything together. In the early years, a group of us would gather at Becky’s apartment to watch “Rock of Love” on Sunday nights. It was terrible TV, but we all couldn’t get enough of it :) Becky would always ask me to do an impression of one of the characters on the show, Daisy. I can still hear her repeating it back to me now. Becky soon moved in with Katie and I and we became even closer. Becky loved my miniature dachshund, Gracie, always showing her so much love and quickly adapting to her many nicknames (Gracer, Grace Face). Becky would call me “Yinzy” - my Greek landlord’s interpretation of my name. If it wasn’t Yinzy, it was “Linzer!” The exclamation point is completely necessary because she always delivered it with so much enthusiasm. In turn, I called her “Beckster.” We had so many good times together painting the town red, whether it was afternoons in Astoria Park with friends, trips to the Hamptons, bowling, singing Karaoke all around NYC, seeing our favorite comedian John Roberts perform in the city, or just hosting people on our apartment balcony. Too many memories to count. When my twins arrived in 2014, Becky appropriately called them the “Twinzers!”. She showed them so much love and often babysat for them when they were little. They too have many memories of her. One of the last pictures I have of Becky, myself, and my kids was at our favorite cookie place in Astoria, called Chip. My kids loved going there and I would often call Becky on whim to meet us there since she lived down the street. If she was around, she always accepted. Becky was on one the wittiest people I had ever met. Her humor was hard to match. I mean, who dresses up as mad cow disease for Halloween?! Only Becky could pull that off. I remember on a night out in the city someone had asked her if she, for lack of a better word, “passed gas”. She quickly replied, “in this dress?!”. During one of our recent, super long catch up conversations/FaceTimes her phone died. Once it recharged, she texted me and we exchanged messages about how great it was to catch up. In humor only Becky could deliver, she ended the text with “love you, miss you, call me in 5 minutes!”.
Love and miss you, Beckster!

Becky and I had a lot of good times together in Astoria. One memory in particular that I like to think back on is when we visited the Museum of the Moving Image that was basically in our backyard. There's a booth where you do voiceovers of some famous movie scenes. We could barely get through a scene without cracking up. Needless to say, neither of us were born to act. I'll miss the "Hey, Cakes!" messages I'd get, thanks to a funny nickname she coined for me. Her sense of humor was one of the best. Sending love to all of the Maloney's <3 The picture is from our day at the Museum.

Becky and I shared a love of oysters. If one of us was in the mood to eat some, the other would drop what we were doing to go get some together. At Oysterfest 2018 we both had 2 dozen. In our last conversation she invited me to Florida since there were so many seafood spots that she wanted to try there. She was a very shellfish friend. (I also liked our chill days in the park and going with each other to support our friends in their comedy and art careers).

My dear Rebecca, Although we’ve only been friends for a short time, I feel like I’ve known you for a while. You’re truly one of the kindest, gentlest people I’ve ever met and was looking forward to a great friendship. It brings a smile to my face when I think about how happy you were with us that last time. Laughing, eating, playing with Ruffle, and enjoying New Years Eve. Now I can see you on a little, puffy cloud with inconspicuous wings right next our Father watching Ruffle playing with all of his new friends…you’re beautiful….fly high my angel…until we meet again

I can still vividly hear Becky's laugh echoing in the art room at Bishop Ludden 23 years later...like it was yesterday! She was always so silly and happy and bubbly. Always a ray of sunshine when she walked in the door, ready to tell me about her day. She really seemed to enjoy art class and wasn't afraid of the challenge of trying something new. It brings me such joy that she became an art teacher! I'm sure that she cherished those moments with her students, as I do mine. Godspeed sweet girl. Let your spirit inspire all the students within the walls of my room.

Dear Maloney Family- I am so sorry for your loss and my heart breaks for all of you. I had worked at the property where Rebecca lived and was able to reconnect with her recently. She was going to start walking my dog this coming week - we got to spend 1.5 hrs together last Thursday- laughing, talking about family, health, our dogs, and about her recent trip home. I was so fortunate to see her. We shared something, amazing parents- I always told her, we were the lucky ones, most people don’t have such caring, committed, loving parents who will do anything for their children. She spoke about you to me - she loved her family so much! My deepest condolences to you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

My life and friendship with Becky goes back to our days in junior high school at Bishop Ludden where we instantly became friends. That friendship is one that I have cherished and remained loyal to throughout my entire life. She was my best female friend that I wasn’t married to. I loved her so much that I wanted her to be in my wedding, so much so that I asked Bonnie(my wife) for her to be a brides maid. They weren’t that close yet and Bonnie had already filled the spots. So I had her as grooms woman, I called her my Iron Maiden. She was so exited to be a part of the day and it was spring board for a friendship that turned into a sisterhood with my wife Bonnie.
She will always and forever be as important to me and my wife in death as she was in life. The energy and hilarity that she brought to the table was always appreciated and will be sorely missed. Even at her weakest, (while she was recovering from her transplant) she shined. Her strength to recover from addiction and a liver transplant was incredible.
I will miss her intensely. My friend, my sister, my Becky “Big” Maloney. It was you that did the Boo. I love you forever…

My most special memory of you, sweet Becky, was when you were small and I was sitting alone on your dock. You quietly came and sat next to me. We sat in silence for a bit. Then you, with your wonderful whimsy, asked looking at the sky ,”What if we closed our eyes, and when we opened them we were in a totally different place.” I was captivated and will always remember.
