Obituary of Richard P. Williams
Richard (Rick) (Audie) Williams, 76, of Onondaga Hill passed away peacefully Thursday at the Syracuse VA Hospital after a long illness.
Survived by his wife & best friend, Sue; his 4 children Michael (Chrissy) of Fairport, NY, Cara (Josh) of Charlotte, NC, Sean & Caitlin (Aaron) of San Diego, CA; 7 grandchildren Melody & Mickey Williams of Fairport, Lily, Dylan, & Chloe Sampson of Charlotte, and twins Hendrix & Marley of San Diego; brother John of Palm Springs, CA and sister, Mary of NY. Rick was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Williams & Katherine Sherlock Williams.
Rick graduated from Central High School. He was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran; the recipient of 3 Purple Hearts & 2 Bronze Stars (one with Valor). Rick was very humble, not seeking or accepting praise for these honors. After the war, Rick began a career in telecommunications. Employment began at American Dynatel and included years with CIS Corporation, NiCom, and Premier Internet.
Rick was a proud Irishman, loving all things Irish; especially Irish music, flying the Irish flag, and his many leprechauns. He was known to "have a gargle" in a local pub, always up for a "hooley".
Rick was happiest spending time with his family and friends; primarily at home. Rick loved his home. Being a faithful Catholic, he believes he is now with family & friends that went before him in his new home in heaven.
There will be a funeral mass at St. Patrick's Church at 10am on July 21, 2023. A celebration of life will follow.
