Please share a memory of Augustine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Augustine Thomas Johnston, affectionately known by his family and friends as Gus, passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Alice (Solan) Johnston, his sisters, Cecelia Taaffa and Attracta O'Connor, sons, Paul (Maggie Voultsios), Patrick, Alan (Michelle) Johnston, Sean (Erika) Johnston, daughter, Ann (Eric) Sullivan and his grandchildren, Michelle, Courtney, Gavin, Emily, Nora, Anthony, Audrey, Fiona, Declan, Hannah, Brendan, Liam and one great grandchild, Sophia. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, countless relatives that he loved very much and a handful that he didn't really care for.
Gus was born on a dairy farm in Ballybay Ireland and left the Ballybay National School at a very early age to go make a life for himself. He met the love of his love while ballroom dancing in Dublin Ireland, where he and Alice were champion ballroom dancers. His career path led him to several jobs including working in the pubs in Ireland, working at a Rolls Royce factory, driving a double-decker bus in London and delivering packages for UPS. He started his own very successful tax business, Johnston's Tax Service, along with owning The Ballybay Pub, several real estate properties and a stable of race horses. Gus was a self made man in every sense of the word. He worked hard everyday and had a very big heart. He loved being around his family more than anything. Gus loved to vacation with his family in Ireland, Cape Cod and the Outer Banks.
