Obituary of Moira Parkinson
Moira was a beautiful, gentle, and kind person inside and out.
She was born in Syracuse, NY on October 4, 1989 to Cynthia M. and John T. Parkinson. Moira’s birth brightened their world. Throughout her life, Moira loved the arts with an enduring passion for music, dance and theatre. She enjoyed photography and travel, and especially trips to the beach. Moira had many fond memories with family and friends at Lake Ontario, North Carolina, Florida, Cape Cod, and in the Adirondacks.
Moira graduated from Westhill High School prior to receiving a bachelor’s degree in education from The University of Scranton and a master’s in education from LeMoyne College. Moira devoted her career to helping others as an educator and mentor to countless individuals. She instructed children in schools in North Carolina and New York. Most recently, Moira worked with Access CNY, providing career training for people with disabilities. Moira was enthusiastic about her work, always striving to find ways to better address her student’s needs to help them achieve their goals.
Moira touched the lives of all she knew, and will be remembered for her kindness, passions, interests, and her contagious smile that brightened any room.
Moira will be forever loved and missed. She is survived by her parents, Cynthia M. and John T. Parkinson, three siblings, Patrick J. Parkinson, Elizabeth A. Parkinson, and Richard J. Parkinson (Jack), her maternal grandmother, Dian R. Moran, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, David J. Moran, paternal grandparents, Ruth F. and Richard J. Parkinson, and her uncle and godfather, Richard J. Parkinson, Jr.
A funeral Mass will be held at the St. Patrick’s and St. Brigid’s Church on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Access CNY, 1603 Court Street, Syracuse, New York 13208.
