Obituary of Christopher Winthrop Chappell
In loving memory of Christopher Chappell, who passed away at the age of 33 on May 20, 2024. Chris was born on April 9, 1991, and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Chris dedicated 13 years of his life to serving in the army, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to protecting and serving his country. His bravery, discipline, and selflessness were truly admirable, and he leaves behind a legacy of honor and sacrifice. Chris recently joined the pipe fitters’ union where he was most passionate about specializing in the trait of welding as he has 6 years of experience at GA Braun.
Beyond his military service, Christopher was a loving husband, father, and cherished son. He was a loyal friend with a compassionate heart who was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His infectious laughter and warm smile brought joy to the lives of those around him. Those who met Chris loved him instantly.
In his free time, Chris loved spending time with his son, Jackson, whether it be playing video games, kicking a soccer ball around, going to the movies, or just being goofy together. Chris’ greatest accomplishment was being a father.
Another passion of Chris was riding his motorcycle. He became a founding member of the Life of Balance motorcycle club creating a second family in the process. Chris loved being a part of this brotherhood as it was difficult to journey his life without his brother, Stephen Gudknecht and his best friend, James Pontello. The club helped fill the void left by the loss of Steve and James.
Christopher's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, family, and friends. Though his physical presence may be gone, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. We will forever remember his courage, kindness, and unwavering love.
Christopher is predeceased by his brother, Steve Gudknecht, and grandparents, Marjorie and George Ruff and Marlene and Winthrop Chappell Sr. He is survived by his wife, Maria, son, Jackson, parents, Nancy and Winthrop Chappell, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 4 to 6pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. A service will follow at 6pm at the funeral home after the calling hours. Burial will be at a later date.
