Obituary of Edward A Snyder

Edward Arthur (Ned) Snyder, Jamesville, New York - born January 2, 1954, passed away peacefully on Monday June 3, 2024 at St. Camillus. 

 

Ned always had a curious mind. He was a lifelong Thinker, Explorer and Learner. - - - In high school Ned was highly active in DeMolay International and Junior Achievement where Ned and a team created, marketed and sold unique painted railroad tie - desk pen sets to businessmen in Central New York. 

 

Ned was a Collector. - - - Ned collected and neatly organized rocks and minerals, insects - biologically named, preserved and neatly pinned to display boards, coins, stamps, historical newspaper clippings and vinyl (LP) record albums. Ned was a Resource.

 

Ned was a Friend. - - - While attending college, Ned studied under Biology Professor, Dr Mahtab Shaikh. Mahtab was a great (lifelong) Friend and Mentor to Ned. Mahtab and his Family, Wife (Marylin), Daughter (Alanna), Son (Cris) were also great Friends to Ned and Ned’s Family. Wonderful people. Lifelong friends.

 

Ned was an Artist and Entrepreneur. - - - In the 1970s, Ned created and sold String Art, original pieces of framed artwork, brightly colored threads, strung in geometric patterns among brass brads set into velvet backed canvas. Ned and family attended street art shows held in various cities and towns in Syracuse, Rochester and other locations in and around central New York. Ned’s artwork normally sold out. 

 

Ned was an Altruist - - - While attending college, Ned became an active Volunteer, a Co-Leader with the Onondaga County 4-H Horse Club. Ned owned (loved) a quarter horse (Dixie) and while working with 4-H, Ned met the love of his life, his loving Wife of forty three years (Roxanne). Ned and Roxanne worked with 4-H for several years and immensely enjoyed - every - minute.

 

Ned and Roxanne were Horsemen and Equestrians - - - After Dixie, Ned and Roxanne were proud owners of pinto, Mr Lee Bar. Ned worked hard so that Roxanne could live her dream. Ned and Roxanne traveled with and showed Mr Lee, a wonderful horse, who won many awards. Ned and Roxanne were members of the NYS Pinto Horse Club. Ned was instrumental in planning the 1989 Pinto Nationals held inSyracuse, NY. 

 

Ned was a Reliable and Loyal Worker - - - Ned worked as a Blender for Clinton’s Ditch, a Pepsi Bottler, for 42 years, working in Quality Control, doing lab checks, working with plant water treatment systems and other microbiological duties in Cicero, New York.

 

Ned was a Son (to Fay and Art) and a Brother (to Karen and Scott) - - - Ned, first child, Ned blazed trails for Karen and Scott to follow. Ned and his Dad (Art) were active with the Boy Scouts, camping, wood working, arts and crafts. Ned and his Mom (Fay), they cooked, baked, they read stories together and dreamed - big dreams. Ned taught his Brother (Scott) about music, about science, how to - wonder and play games of strategy and games of imagination. Ned taught - - - Wonder. Ned doted on his Sister (Karen). Ned made doll houses, and doll house furniture for his little sister. Ned sang songs for Karen, and lifted her up, whenever she fell down.  

 

More than anything - - - Ned was a Giver. So generous, with his time, with his resources and his compassion…

 

Ned left us - and this place - and our time - Better, better than he found it.

Ned will be missed, but never forgotten.

Ned is predeceased by his mother, Fay, and father, Arthur. He is survived by his loving wife, Roxanne, brother Scott (Christine) Snyder, sister Karen (David) Cook, nephew, nieces and beloved cats Pandora and Pascal. 

 

At Ned’s request there will be no services. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CNY Cat Coalition or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
