Obituary of Brian Paul Cummings

Please share a memory of Brian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Brian Paul Cummings, of Rochester NY, 39 passed away unexpectedly on June 23, 2024. He was the most wonderful and caring person you could ever meet, but most importantly he was the best father, husband, son, cousin and friend. His infectious laugh lit up a room.
Brian was born on June 4th, 1985 in Syracuse NY, to Paul & Lisa Cummings. His early years were shared with his siblings, Abby and Alex. Creating memories at Cranberry Lake and always surrounded by the endless Cummings and Phillips cousin clans. Brian had the best childhood where his love for the outdoors and family knew no bounds. He loved being a big brother and his parents were his heroes.
A graduate of West Genesee High School in 2003, Brian was the embodiment of a lacrosse goalie and was a proud member of the 2002 and 2003 NYS Class A Lacrosse Championship teams. He continued his education and lacrosse career at St. John Fisher University as the starting goalie. West Genny and Fisher are the special places where Brian found all of his “boys”.
Professionally, Brian started his career at Syracuse University in the Carrier Dome. Abbey and Brian then moved to Chicago where he worked for Lacrosse America. Brian coached the elite Team Illinois. He created the Pipe City Lacrosse Festival. Moving back to Rochster, Brian managed the East Rochester Total Sports Experience. Here is where he was able to share his love and passion for all sports, especially lacrosse, with kids and adults every day. Brian then took over as the Director of the Gordon Field House at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Brian met Abbey Rathbun when they were 19 and they instantly knew they were solemates. In 2012 they were married. Brian spent the entire reception performing his famous dance moves “around the bottle”. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joyous hustle and bustle of raising their three children: Lincoln, Novalee and Remy. Out of all of Brian’s accomplishments his 3 children made him beyond proud. He lived everyday to provide for them and give them the best life possible. Daddy was the chef of the house, head coach and told the best bedtime stories.
Brian died knowing every line from the Big Lebowski and Ace Venture. He loved fantasy football, darts, bowling and golf. His love for 90’s rap knows no limits. He truly was “The Dude”. #34 will be in our hearts forever.
Predeceased by his grandparents Spencer and Patricia Cummings and Roger Phillips. Brian is survived in adoration and love by the love of his life, Abbey, children, Lincoln (8), Novalee (5) and Remy (3). Grandmother Susan Porto. Parents, Paul and Lisa Cummings, Mark and Lisa Rathbun. Siblings Abby and Chris Hubbard (Oliver, Chloe & Emma), Alex and Carolyn Cummings (Audrey, Claire & Sean). Sara and Ben Blujus, Joey Rathbun and Chelsea Greason (Teddy & Levi), Josh Rathbun and Caralie Fennessey and Marni Rathbun. As well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
