Obituary of Gordon Maycumber
Gordon W. Maycumber, Deputy Chief Ret. Syracuse Fire Dept. with 35 years of service.
He was an Eagle Scout with two Psalms and Jr. Ass’t Scoutmaster Troop 181 Woodlawn Methodist Church, Syracuse, NY.
Gordon was a veteran of the U.S. NAVY, member 138th fighter Squadron NYANG and Division Commander U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary with 30 years service. He also served as National Staff Historian. Gordon was a member of the Firefighter and Fire Officer Ret. Assoc, Author of the book “Folklore of Madison Barracks 1930-1941, Various historic articles for the Jefferson County Historical Asso., President of Pillar Point Home Owners Asso., President of Stone Structures Assoc. of Jefferson County, NY, Ret. Member USGG Aux Station Sackets Harbor, NY, member of Caughdenoy United Methodist Church, 60 year member of the Syracuse Pistol Club, member of the NY R&P Club and a life member of the NRA.
He is survived by his son David L. and (Donna J.) Maycumber, granddaughter, Megan (Nick) Maycumber, grandson, Andrew (Lauren), great grandchildren, Braylen, Cole and Gavin and many nieces and nephews.
Gordon is predeceased by his wife of over 66 years, Donna Mothorpe Maycumber, who was his everything, father, Harold R. and Doris (Soule) Maycumber, sister, Sharon M. Case as well as friends Larry Smith, Francis Walsh, Frank Burke and Shep.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 10-11am at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. A funeral service will follow immediately after calling hours. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the SPCA; 5878 East Molloy Rd Syracuse, NY 13211 in Gordon's name.
