Obituary of John W. Shuron

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John W. Shuron died on Friday, February 3rd at Van Duyn Center in Syracuse. He was born on September 3, 1921 in Ansonia, Connecticut; he lived in Exton, PA for several years, but he spent most of his life in Syracuse, NY. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mame (Mulherin), and his immediate family, including his sisters, Stella and Olga and his brother, William. He is survived by: his son, Michael and his wife, Linda, his son, John and his wife, Wendy, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He served in the Navy as a Chief Yeoman in World War II. He worked for many years in Labor Relations for New York Central, which became Conrail, and he had many an exciting tale to tell about those days. He was an avid gardener, a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, and an unmatched letter writer to all his many relatives and friends. He loved to sing and he sang in two barbershop choirs: The Chordbusters, in Exton, and The Chorus of the Onondaga in Syracuse. For many years he served daily Mass at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Syracuse. He was a great, gregarious person who belonged to and contributed to many organizations. He had a great sense of humor and once he started laughing, you had to join in. As recently as 2015, barely able to see, he could still play a mean game of Pitch. He will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace. A wake will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. at Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home (3180 Bellevue Avenue) followed by a funeral Mass at the Basilica at Sacred Heart (927 Park Avenue) at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Daughters of Mary, 19 Grant St., Rochester, NH 03867.
