Obituary of James Haver O'Connor

James Haver O'Connor, 86, passed away peacefully, Friday, August 7, 2015 at Syracuse Home at McHarrie Pointe in Baldwinsville. He was a lifelong resident of Syracuse and a graduate of CBA, LeMoyne College and Syracuse University College of Law. Jim spent his entire professional law career with MacKenzie Hughes specializing in estates, wills and trusts. He served as an officer in the Korean War on the USS Boxer with the U.S. Navy and was with the Navy Reserve for over twenty years. Jim was an active outdoorsmen and athlete having won the Tupper Lake Tinman Triathlon (age 60 and over), was a state ranked long distance cross country ski racer, participated in over 20 marathons, numerous 10K races, triathlons, was an avid canoer, sailor and climbed many of the 4, 000 foot peaks in the Adirondacks. Jim also enjoyed playing the piano, making soup on Sunday nights and going to camp on Oneida Lake. He was a communicate of St. Charles in Westvale for over 50 years. He loved Syracuse and upstate New York.
Jim is predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy of over 50 years and his cherished daughter, Melissa, and is survived by daughters, Mary (Ron) Spoto, Barbara (Chris) Ross, and son, Tom (Joanne) O'Connor all of Baldwinsville, and sons, Timothy (Tamara) O'Connor of Dallas, Texas, Jim (Mary) O'Connor of Denton, Texas, and David (Terry) O'Connor of Newton, North Carolina, his brother, John O'Connor of Clay, fourteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank Syracuse Home at McHarrie Pointe for their exceptional care of our father.
Services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 417 S. Orchard Rd. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 4 to 7pm at the Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave., Syracuse. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veteran's Cemetery.
