Obituary of Andrew G. Awad
Please share a memory of Andrew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Andrew G. Awad, 75, of Westvale, died on January 4, 2015 after a short but hard fought battle with lung cancer.
Born in Syracuse on October 26, 1939, he was the last surviving child of the late George Awad and Selwa Awad Khammar. He was predeceased by his brothers, Victor, Fred, Ed Awad, and his sister, Vickie Sopp, along with his two nephews, Alfred J. Awad, Jr. and Chuckie Sopp.
Andy enjoyed his education, graduating from Central High School in 1958 and Syracuse University in 1962. He spent his entire career in the insurance industry.
To the end, Andy's family provided him with unconditional love and unending support. He leaves his wife of 47 years, the former Terry Ann Donovan. The family they created brought him tremendous quiet pride. Their children are Andrew D. Awad of Liverpool, Emily & Marc McPeak of Onondaga Hill, Stacey & Jamie Awad of Syracuse. His grandchildren Izzy, Caden, Eamon, Benji, and Emi put wonder in his eyes and filled his heart with love. Could anyone ask for anything more?
Additionally, Andy is survived by a cluster of caring in-laws, loving nieces and nephews, and friends.
Andy loved the Dodgers, be they in Brooklyn or L.A. He was a faithful supporting alumnus of Syracuse University sports.
He served as a lifetime member of St. Elias Orthodox Church, having sung in the choir since he was 18 years old.
Luckily, we had the gift of Andy in our lives.
It is at Andy's request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Elias Church Building Fund 4988 Onondaga Road, Syracuse, NY 13215 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Calling hours are Friday January 9, 2015 from 4 to 7pm at Edward J. Ryan and Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. On Saturday, at 10 am the funeral will be at St. Elias Church, 4988 Onondaga Road, with burial following at Woodlawn Cemetery.
