Obituary of Kathleen DeMore
Kathleen M. DeMore, 76, of Camillus, passed away on January 12, 2021 surrounded by family at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a five week battle with Covid which evolved into pneumonia and acute respiratory distress. Kathy was predeceased by her husband, George, (2009), as well as her brothers: Tom, Frank, Jim, Charlie and Terry Quigley and her sister, Ann Kelly.
Kathy graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School and worked as a dental assistant for several years before she and George married in 1967 and started a family. Kathy was a great athlete in her day and she loved to compete against anyone who would dare challenge her, especially on the golf course. She golfed several times a week at Bellevue Country Club for over 40 years, where she maintained a 16 handicap and routinely shot in the 80’s. She and George retired to The Landings on Skidaway Island, Savannah, Georgia in 2006 where they made numerous friends with whom they played golf and traveled around the world. Kathy returned to Camillus two years ago and was residing at Camillus Ridge Assisted Living Facility. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her fellow residents and the staff at Camillus Ridge.
Kathy was loved by many for her unwavering loyalty and fantastic sense of humor. She loved to laugh and genuinely have a good time with her many friends in Syracuse and Skidaway, especially those who looked after her and included her in many social gatherings after George passed away. She had an uncanny ability to see kindness in anyone she met and she took great pride in her grandchildren who became the focus of her life. Her family is comforted knowing that she is finally reunited with George and we strongly suspect that they are enjoying a Manhattan or two together reflecting on lives well lived.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Sarah (Mike) Churchill of San Francisco, CA, sons Paul (Marcie) of Charlotte, N.C. and Tim (Maggie) of Syracuse and several nieces and nephews, including Paul (Dawn) Quigley of Alicia Vejo, CA, whom she and George raised as one of their own. She is also survived by her eight beloved grandchildren: Will, Claire, Kate, George, Charlie, Megan, Teddy and Lucy.
Arrangements are by Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home. A socially-distanced funeral mass will be held on Friday January 22, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Most Holy Rosary Church.
