Obituary of Dennis Grogan

Please share a memory of Dennis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dennis Grogan, 83, of Whitefield, NH (formerly of Bedford and Manchester, NH), passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024. In his passing, he joined his precious daughter Bridget (Grogan) Gigliotti in Heaven.

A resident of Whitefield, NH since 2004, Dennis was born on August 7, 1941 in Binghamton, NY. He was a graduate of St. Paul’s High School in Binghamton, State University of New York Broome, and King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Dennis served in the United States Air Force from 1962-1968, stationed predominately in Maine. While studying at King’s College, Dennis met the love of his life Dorothy (Ruddy) Grogan. They were married at St. Nicholas Parish in Wilkes-Barre, PA on August 28, 1971.

Dennis had a successful career as a corporate controller, working at GTE/Sylvania, Phillips Magnavox, and EAD Motors. His career took his family to many parts of the country including Raleigh, NC; El Paso, TX (where they welcomed their daughter Bridget); Rochester, NY (welcomed Carrie); Knoxville, TN, eventually settling in Bedford, NH and completing the remainder of his career in Dover, NH. On the completion of his 40-year career in corporate finance, Dennis served for 14 years as in part-time maintenance at the New Horizons homeless shelter in Manchester, NH. Dennis achieved his dream of living on a lake in 2004 when he and Dottie purchased a cottage in Whitefield, NH. He was an active member of the Manchester, NH chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Manchester, NH St. Patrick’s Parade Committee, and the American Legion. Always the organization treasurer, Dennis served in that role beginning with the Student Veterans Club at King’s College and later for the Manchester AOH, the Lakeside Condominium Association, and the Manchester, NH St. Patrick’s Parade.

Dennis was known for his wise counsel and strong moral code. The ultimate girl dad, Dennis spent many days at dance recitals and somewhat successfully teaching his daughters to drive. Dennis’ pride and joy were his three grandchildren, Michael, Payton, and Madelyn. He cherished spending time with his family at Mirror Lake.

Dennis is predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Lena (O’Neill) Grogan, his brother, William Grogan, niece, Catherine (Grogan) Martin, and his precious daughter, Bridget (Grogan) Gigliotti. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy (Ruddy) Grogan; son-in-law, Thomas Gigliotti and grandson, Michael Gigliotti of Nashua, NH; daughter, Carrie (Grogan) Abbott, her husband Chris, and grandchildren, Payton and Madelyn Abbott of Syracuse, NY; and his loving sister, Sandra (Grogan) Lederman and her husband Gary and nephews Geoff (Debbie) Grogan, David (Pavi) Grogan, and Teresa Grogan.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Hospice of Central New York for their care and support in his final days.
